Description

Rezensionen

Very interesting, friendly and easy-going tour of coliseum and forum romanum. The tour was in swedish, but Erik also gives tours in german and english. Many details that made it interesting for the kids (9, 14), such as 3D-glasses, historical games...
The tour of Colosseum was the best part! The sight is amazing and Erik told us s lot of interesting things about history as well as present days uses.
We enjoyed a fantastically well prepared, in-depth and entertaining tour the captured everyone from kids to grown ups in our family. Erik is knowledgeable, fun, uses a variety of media to really bring the tour to life...

I can’t imagine a better one-day cruises top tour of Rome for the price than the tour we took with Erik. When we described our day to other passengers upon returning to the trip, it was no comparison. Erik packed into our tour more sightseeing, history, and food, and other perks than we thought possible, all at the low price of 90 Euros per person.

I communicated with Eric via WhatsApp a couple times before the cruise, mentioning to him that the weather in Rome would be very hot the day we were there and asking for specific information about where to meet him. He responded within a few hours which removed all worry. We hopped on the free shuttle bus from the ship to the town (probably about a mile from the ship, nothing to see along the way – take the bus for sure) and walked 100 meters to the area outside the fence where Erik was waiting exactly where he said he would be with our name on a sign (He had sent me a little map on WhatsApp at my request). We could tell instantly that he was a warm, friendly guy. He walked at a leisurely pace with us and our other tour companions (we knew ahead of time we would be sharing our tour with another family of four) about a half mile along the Civitavecchia waterfront promenade, giving us the history of Michelangelo’s castle and talking about the history of the port town. When we got to the train station a few minutes ahead of our departure, he bought the tickets for us (spoiler alert: Erik paid for EVERYTHING on our tour) and led us to our direct train to Rome. Although we had heard that there was a direct train and a regular train, apparently most other cruise guests did not, as there were only about ten of us on the nice, new, air conditioned train. We saw others getting onto another slower, many-stop train.
Anyway, after about an hour through the countryside, with Erik answering questions all along the way, we arrived at our train stop near the Vatican. We walked to Saint Peter’s Square, saw some Swiss Guards, and learned about the basilica and surrounding buildings and structures and popes, popes, popes. Erik is a self-taught pope-ologist.
We went to a nearby souvenir shop for water and restrooms, and then met up with Massimo, our van driver. Erik had arranged for an air conditioned van because of the 100-degree heat, again, included in the price. Off we went to an ancient marketplace with a statue of Giordino Bruno, who had been burned by the Vatican for espousing the Earth was round. Erik bought us all pizza which we enjoyed while bartering with merchants, and then Massimo drove us to the Parthenon.
At the Parthenon, Erik bought us typical Roman crouquette-like snacks made of rice and a tomato sauce and deep fried. They were delicious. He taught us about the Parthenon’s history and we had another opportunity to fill water bottles before heading off to the Trivoli Fountain, learning it’s history, throwing coins in, and then enjoying a nice gelato. Massimo took us to the Spanish Steps, Erik gave us the history of the ancient city walls, showed us Marcus Arelius’ tower and other sites, and then took us to the Monti neighborhood for an authentic sit-down pasta and pizza lunch complete with bruschetta, wine and beer. Unbelievable!
We completed our tour of Rome with a visit to the Collosium. Then we hopped on a Metro for a quick trip to the train station and the ride back to the port. We packed a lot of sights (and eats) into a single cruise ship port day in Rome.
Erik couldn’t have been nicer. Our tour companions had a couple young boys who seemed reluctant at first but Erik engaged them and came up with “I spy with my eye…” games for them to play. He gave them treats from his own stash. I told him he would be a great teacher and he said that being a tour guide was exactly what he wanted to do. It certainly showed.

What an unbelievable trip of a lifetime we had in Rome thanks to Erik. His knowledge and friendly demeanor made it truly enjoyable. Whether we were Rome touring the basilica’s, in Florence, Assisi or Orvieto, he made sure we knew the history as well as the stuff of local legend. From our first meeting him at the airport throughout or ten day stay, my wife and I felt very comfortable with him. Like and old friend we hadn’t seen in a while. Thanks you Erik for making this once in a lifetime trip for us a dream come true.

5/5–Erik was knowledgeable, patient, experienced and awesome! We would do it again with our 10 and 7 year old boys! While it lasted almost all day, there were stops for bathrooms, water (all throughout the city are fountains that have cold water), food and of course the awesome sites.

Erik was unequivocally the ALL TIME BEST tour quide I have ever had! His vast knowledge of everything we saw was mindblowing. My only regret was that I couldn’t take him with us on all our tours while in Europe.
